HOUSTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team (6-2) defeated the Houston Cougars 5-2 on Friday evening to win their first true road match of the season at the Winston Tennis Facility on the campus of Houston.
The Mavericks jumped out to the lead following a sweep of the doubles point.
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons breezed to a 6-1 win on Court Three before
Polina Akimova and Nanaka Takeuch secured the point with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 doubles position.
In singles play,
Momoka Horiguchi kept the ball rolling for the Mavs winning her match on Court Two 6-1, 6-1. Akimova followed with a straight set win on Court One 6-2, 6-4. The Cougars earned their first point of the match in a 6-4, 6-4 win over
Lucia Natal on Court Four. The Mavericks wrapped up the victory with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 win from Boza in the No. 6 position before
Carla Pons added a fifth point with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 5 position.
UTA will stay in Houston for another match tomorrow (Feb. 29) to take on UConn at the Winston Tennis Facility.
