HOUSTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team (7-2) defeated the UConn Huskies at the University of Houston on Saturday afternoon, 7-0.
The momentum from Friday's win carried over into Saturday for the Mavericks, quickly jumping out to a 1-0 lead with a doubles point win.Â
Polina Akimova and
Nanaka Takeuchi won the No. 1 doubles position by a score of 6-2.Â
Momoka Horiguchi and
Lucia Natal took Court Two 6-1. In the No. 3 position, Alumdena Boza and
Carla Pons were leading 5-2 when the doubles point was called.
The Mavericks won all their singles matches in straight sets, mowing through the Huskies lineup. Akimova took Court One 6-0, 6-2. On Court Two, Horiguchi won an easy 6-1, 6-1 match.Â
Liz Chileno secured the No. 3 singles position with a 6-1, 6-2 match.Â
Aida Garcia Mendez had the toughest match of the day, winning 7-6, 6-2. Boza cleaned up on Court Six 6-2, 6-3, while
Carla Pons won by default after leading 6-1, 5-0.
UTA will head to Florida next week for matches against Florida Gulf Coast (March 5) and Florida Athletic (March 7).
