ARLINGTON – With an ever-increasing focus on student-athlete well-being, UT Arlington Director of Athletics
Jim Baker announced on Thursday that
Kathy Wagner has been promoted to Assistant AD for Sport Performance. Wagner has served as UTA's Head Strength and Conditioning Coach since June of 2009.
Â
UTA Strength and Conditioning operates two state-of-the art facilities and consists of five staff members. Wagner leads individual strength coaches for men's and women's basketball and two Graduate Assistants who assist her with other sports.
Â
Over the last several years, Wagner has assisted with the implementation of a constantly-evolving nutrition program as well as educating coaches and student-athletes on the overall impact of health, wellness, sleep and recovery on sports performance.
Â
"Coach Wagner is a nationally-respected professional whose expertise and leadership is critical to the continued development of our student-athletes," said Baker. "As a prominent female in the strength and conditioning field, she pushes our administration to invest in tools and programs which support their continued growth and serves as a mentor to our student-athletes."
Â
In 2019, Wagner was elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa). Her previous service to this premier professional organization includes time on the Certification Commission, which oversees all aspects of the organization's Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification program. She has also served as the Certification Commission Chair.
Â
"I am extremely excited about this appointment," Wagner stated. "UTA has been very supportive of my professional growth and allowing me to build a strength and conditioning department that will continue to enhance our student-athletes ability to compete and excel in the conference and nationally."Â
Â
In 2014, Wagner received the prestigious title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach. At the time, she was only the 12th woman to be recognized with this distinction. CSCCa Executive Director Dr. Chuck Stiggins stated: "Kathy is an extremely valuable asset to the Certification Commission, the CSCCa and the strength and conditioning profession."
Â
Prior to her arrival at UTA, Wagner served in various capacities at Wyoming, Ohio State and UTEP. These roles included Director of Strength and Conditioning (UW) and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach – Olympic Sports (OSU). Wagner holds multiple certifications in addition to Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, including Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and TPI Fitness Level 2 Certified.
