Personal Bests Fall as XC Competes at Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UT Arlington cross country squads returned to action after a one-week hiatus to compete in the annual Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas on Friday evening.

In likely the biggest event of the regular season, the Mavs women's team placed 12th out of 37 teams with a score of 336 while the men finished 19th out of 36 teams.

The women put together a terrific day which included three new personal bests set in the 5k event. Freshman Anne Arntsen put together an outstanding race and crossed first for the Mavs, finishing 37th out of 322 runners with a time of 17:42.6.

Close behind her was senior Madeleine Rowe, who placed 50th with a time of 17:56.9, followed by senior Valeria Diaz-Gonzales, who placed 75th with a time of 18:13.2. The three top finishers all clocked in with personal records on the evening.

Senior Charlotte Murphy saw her first action of the season and was terrific with a time of 18:22.3 and an 85th place finish. Junior Mathilde Ruud rounded out the scoring in 104th with a time of 18:34.6, while junior Haven Sizemore finished with a time of 21:35.2 as an individual.

On the men's side, sophomore Marquentin Barnes led the way, placing 100th with a time of 25:48.2 in the 8k while freshman Alfredo Corona was closely behind in 103rd with a time of 25:49.2. Sophomore Patrick Estes set a new personal best in the 8k with a time of 25:58.2, while Jacob Ye also added a PR with a time of 26:10.9.

Junior Tyler Rodriguez checked in with a time of 26:36.6, while freshman Jackson Cichon followed with a time of 27:06.2.

UTA will take a week off before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, as they will compete at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station.
