XC Shines at Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION – In their final tune-up before the Sun Belt Championships in two weeks, the UT Arlington cross country teams set more personal bests on Saturday morning as they competed in the Arturo Barrios Invitational at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.

The women were terrific, placing 15th out of 33 teams with 401 points, while the men finished 23rd out of 32 teams with 652 points.

"The women really performed well today and are ready to compete at the conference championships," said Head Coach John Sauerhage. "Jacob (Ye) and Tyler (Rodriguez) really put together a solid run for us on the men's side."

Freshman Anne Arntsen led the women with a terrific performance, placing 34th out of 267 runners with a personal best 21:30.0 in the 6k. It is the fourth time this season the two-time SBC Runner of the Week has led the pack.

Senior Charlotte Murphy followed up on a solid performance last week with a 61st place finished and a time of 21:49..9, while senior Valeria Diaz-Gonzales placed 81st with a personal best 22:09.3. 

Junior Mathilde Ruud topped her best collegiate career time at 22:34.7, while senior Madeleine Rowe finished with a time of 23:11.9. Freshman Claire Compher added a time of 23:39.0.

On the men's side, Marquentin Barnes led the Mavs with a 110th place finish and a time of 25:25.3, while sophomore Jacob Ye was milliseconds behind with a 111th place finished and a time of 25:25.8, setting a new personal record in the 8k.

Junior Tyler Rodriguez set a new personal best with a time of 25:42.1, while freshman Jackson Cichon followed with a time of 26:12.7.

Freshman Sebastian Calderon finished with a time of 27:09.3 while junior Jose Alfonso added a time of 27:16.1.

The Mavs will take a week off and return to action on Friday, October 29 as they will compete in the Sun Belt Championships at Brookley at the Bay in Mobile, Ala.
