Alli Wells has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday morning. This marks the sixth career SBC Defensive Player of the Week award for Wells.
Wells was integral in the sweep of the SBC Arkansas schools (Arkansas State, Little Rock) last weekend, finishing wtih 6.25 digs per set for a total fo 50 digs on the weekend. She also ended with 1.63 assists per set, including a career-high 10 assists in the 3-1 win over Little Rock on Saturday.
She picked up her first career double-double against Little Rock, ending the match with 28 digs and 10 assists. She added 22 digs in the 3-1 win over Arkansas State on Thursday and went a perfect 22-for-22 on serve receive. Wells sits just digs away from becoming the 22nd member of the 1,000 career dig club. She currently ranks 16th in the NCAA in digs per set with 5.25.
Wells and the rest of the Mavericks will return to action this Friday (Oct. 22) when they host App State at 6 p.m. at the College Park Center.Â
