DENTON, Texas – In a battle of two metroplex schools, the UT Arlington volleyball team fell to the North Texas Mean Green 3-0 with two sets going to extra points (27-29, 22-25, 24-26). With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 13-10, while the Mean Green improve to 2-4.
Brianna Ford finished with her seventh double-double of the season picking up 15 kills and 11 digs. As a team, the Mavericks hit .215, but allowed the Mean Green to hit .297. To go along with her 27 assists,
Mollie Blank came away with four of the Mavericks seven service aces. Defensively,
Alli Wells led the Mavericks with 12 digs.
SET 1 | UTA 27, UNT 29 | UNT LEADS 1-0
The Mavericks used a 7-1 run to take an 11-5 lead early in the match that was capped off with a kill from
Briana Brown. With the Mavs leading 19-15, the Mean Green utilized a 4-0 run to tie the set. The set remained tied until both teams sat at 27 and North Texas scored the needed two points to win the set.
SET 2 | UTA 22, UNT 25 | UNT LEADS 2-0
Trailing 6-2,
Kortney Puckett sparked a 4-1 run to put the Mavs within one point. The Mean Green would open up the set again, taking a 23-19 lead. UTA took advantage of two attacking errors to go on a 4-0 run and bring the set within one point again. The Mavs were unable to overtake the Mean Green however, as UNT took the next two points to win the set.
SET 3 | UTA 24, UNT 26 | UNT WINS 3-0
North Texas jumped out to another lead, but kills from
Simara Peyton and
Brianna Ford brought the Mavs back to tie the set at seven. An 8-0 scoring run from the Mavericks, including three aces from
Mollie Blank put UTA up 17-9. The Mean Green used a 3-0 and a 4-0 run to eventually overtake the Mavericks at 23-21. The Mavericks battled back to tie it at 24 but back-to-back points for North Texas ended the set and the match.

UTA will take a few weeks off before hosting TCU at the College Park Center on Friday, March 5.
