SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After a seventh inning rally, the UT Arlington softball team fell short, 8-10, against the Kansas Jayhawks Sunday at Roadrunner Field. The Mavericks wrapped up tournament play in San Antonio 1-4 with an overall record of 1-7.
After trailing by four runs going into their last at-bats, sophomore
Lindsey Franklin was put into pinch hit with two outs and the bases loaded. Franklin delivered with an RBI- single which scored pinch runner
Dariane Cram and center fielder
Reagan Hukill to cut the deficit down to two. The Mavericks' comeback fell short to
Kansas, 8-10.

Lindsey Franklin (1-1) and
KJ Murphy (1-4) led the Mavericks with 2 RBI's while sophomore
Jadyn Erickson went 2-4 at the plate with two singles joined by fellow sophomore
Reagan Hukill who also went 2-4.
Following closely behind Erickson and Hukill is freshman
Jessica Carreon who went 2-3 with two singles.

Laura Henriksen earned her first start in the circle for UTA this season and threw 3.1 innings before freshman
Gracie Bumpurs made an appearance. Bumpurs allowed 4 runs and faced just 6 batters.

Allie Gardiner came in for the fifth inning to pitch the rest of the game for the Mavs and allowed just one hit while facing 11 batters. UTA fell short to Kansas, 8-10 and Henriksen with the loss (0-1).
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. Kansas (L 8-10)
- After two scoreless innings, a couple of Jayhawk errors allowed the Mavericks to score four runs in the top of the third, leading 4-0.
- Kansas quickly answered back with three runs of their own off a pair of doubles and a home run which made it a 4-3 game.
- Following an RBI-single in the fourth from the bat of senior catcher Courtney Ogle, UTA added one more and made it 5-3.
- In Kansas' next at-bats, a couple of walks and a 3-run home run stacked on seven runs for the Jayhawks to take the lead 10-5.
- Senior KJ Murphy hit an RBI- single that plated Jadyn Erickson in the sixth to cut the deficit down to 4.
- Sophomore Lindsey Franklin was put into pinch hit with two outs and the bases loaded. Franklin knocked in two more off a single to right center.
- After a seventh inning battle, UTA came up short to Kansas, 8-10.

The Mavericks are set to host Corpus Christi, Iowa State, Missouri State, North Texas and Wichita State for a four-day tournament as part of the 2
nd Boerner Invitational (Mar. 4-7).
UTA will open tournament play Thursday (Mar. 4) against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at 7:00 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
The Boerner Invitational – named in honor of Melissa Boerner, a former UTA softball captain who was killed by a drunk driver the day before her senior year began in 1998 – is to help raise awareness to the importance of responsible drinking.
