Lady Mavs Defeat ULM To Secure Season Sweep

MONROE, La. – Bre Wickware scored a game-high 18 points to lead the UTA women's basketball team to a 64-39 win at ULM on Saturday at Fant Ewing Coliseum. Down four players (Jordynn Hernandez, Terryn Milton, Claire Chastain and Misty Dossey), the Lady Mavs used a balanced offensive attack and solid defense to secure another Sun Belt Conference victory.

With the win, UTA improves to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in Sun Belt play, while the Warhawks fall to 2-14 on the season and 0-10 in league action. The win also gives the Lady Mavs their fourth straight win over ULM this season and secures the season sweep for UTA.

Wickware shot 7-of-12 from the floor, 1-of-3 from long range and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line to finish with her 18 points. The Denton native also added five boards and three steals. Camryn Hawkins chipped in with 15 points, while Michaela Wright added nine points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Shyia Smith nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Linda van Schaik led ULM with 15 points, while Kierra Crockett pulled down 10 boards.

UTA's defense continued to be huge during league play as they held their sixth SBC opponent to 50 points or less. The Lady Mavs held ULM to just 39 points on 24.4 percent (11-of-45) from the field and 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from three-point range. UT Arlington's defensive pressure forced 17 Warhawk turnovers, which the Lady Mavericks turned into 12 points.

UT Arlington shot 20-of-48 (41.7 percent) from the field and knocked down five triples. Even though the Lady Mavs were outrebounded 35-32, UTA had more points in the paint (24-10) and more fast break points (6-0).

UTA will be back in action on Monday afternoon when they take on Louisiana (9-5, 8-1 SBC) in a battle for first place in the SBC West Division. Tip-off from Louisiana's Cajundome is set for 4:00 p.m.
