Mavericks Earn Pair of Saturday Sweeps

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team took care of action on Saturday, sweeping both Tarleton State (4-0) and Cameron (7-0) at the UTA Tennis Center. With the win, the Mavericks move to 4-0 on the season.
 
UTA vs TARLETON STATE – UTA Wins 4-0
The Mavericks wasted no time taking the doubles point over the Texans. Polina Akimova and Nanaka Takeuchi took No. 1 doubles 6-1, while Lucia Natal and Momoka Horiguchi won 6-2 on court two. Carla Pons and Almudena Boza were tied 5-5 at No. 3 doubles when their match was called.
 
In singles play, courts four through six clinched the match for the Mavericks.  Takeuchi continued her strong morning with a 6-3, 6-0 win on Court Six.  Carla Pons and Lucia Natal both won by scores of 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Momoka Horiguchi and Liz Chileno were both in their third sets when the match was called, while Polina Akimova was preparing for her third set.
 
UTA vs CAMERON – UTA Wins 7-0
UTA took care of business in doubles action in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Lucia Natal and Momoka Horiguchi swept their match by a score of 6-0, while Carla Pons and Almudena Boza won 6-1.  Polina Akimova and Nanaka Takeuchi were winning 4-2 when their match was called.
 
The Mavericks swept the singles matches, all in straight sets. Liz Chileno took No 2 6-1, 6-1 and Lucia Natal took No. 4 by the same score. Carla Pons won court six 6-0, 6-2 before Polina Akimova took court three 6-1, 6-3. In the No. 6 position, freshman Bruna Casasampere won 6-2, 6-3.  Momoka Horiguchi was the final to wrap up her match in a 7-6, 6-3 victory on court one.
 
UP NEXT
The Mavs will travel to Houston next Saturday to take on Rice.
