SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team dropped the first game of a four-game series against UTSA on Friday, 13-1. The Mavs fall to 4-3 overall, while the Roadrunners improve to 3-1.
Carlos Tavera (0-1) started on the mound for the Mavericks. After a stellar first four innings, things unraveled in the fifth. Tavera finished the game with six runs allowed off seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
Wyatt Divis (0.2 IP),
Trevor Pruitt (1.1 IP) and
Jarod Seals (1.2 IP) finished the game in relief effort for the Mavericks, allowing the final eight runs and nine hits.
The Mavericks struggled at the plate, finishing with six hits on the day.
Connor Aube went 2-for-4, including a double and had the lone run for the Mavericks.
Andrew Miller finished with the RBI for the Mavs.
Aube got things rolling in the first inning, leading off with a double. Two batters later Miller drove him in with a ground ball to shortstop to make it a 1-0 game.
The Roadrunners got the first two batter on in the third inning. A sacrifice fly to right field brought in the tying run.
UTSA took over in the fifth inning. The Roadrunners sent 11 to plate and connected on six hits. After all the damage was done, the Roadrunners had scored seven runs and opened up an 8-1 lead.
The Roadrunners momentum continued in the 6
th as they put runners at second and third with two outs. UTSA used a single through the left side of the infield to score both runs and take a nine-run advantage.
The seventh inning faired no better for the Mavericks as the Roadrunners continued to put runs on the board. After loading the bases, UTSA connected on back-to-back singles to drive in three more runs and make the score 13-1.
UTA and UTSA will play in a doubleheader tomorrow in San Antonio. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will be seven innings. Game two will follow and be a standard nine inning game.
