UTA Offense Powers Through to Even Series

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team split the doubleheader Saturday as the Panthers topped the Mavericks in game one 2-0 followed by a 7-2 UTA victory in game two.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – Game 1 (L 2-0)
The Mavs notched just two hits in the contest as KJ Murphy went 1-2 and Cielo Morin recorded a pinch-hit single.

Senior Jojo Valencia earned her eighth start on the mound for the Mavericks and threw all seven innings allowing one earned run off four hits.

UTA struggled at the plate and couldn't get anything going giving Valencia the loss.

PLAY BY PLAY
  • After three scoreless innings on both sides, Georgia State scratched one in the fourth off a single up the middle.
  • The Panthers put one more on the board off a solo home run to center that extended their lead 2-0.
  • The Mavericks' offense remained quiet the remainder of the game as UTA notched just two hits.
  • UTA was unable to plate any runs across falling to Georgia State 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – Game 2 (W 7-2)
Freshman Jessica Carreon led UTA's offense in game two finishing 2-3 while Jadyn Erickson, KJ Murphy (1 RBI), Madison Miller (1 RBI), Aileen Garcia (2 RBI), Reagan Hukill (1 RBI) and Sophie Wideman (1RBI) all recorded one hit.

Sophomore Kenedy Hines started in the circle for the Mavs and threw three innings allowing one run off five hits before junior Laura Henriksen made an appearance.

Right hander Henriksen went on to pitch three innings and allowed just two hits across 13 batters faced.

Henriksen was relieved by Allie Gardiner who threw one inning keeping the Panthers off the board as Henriksen earned her second win of the season.

PLAY BY PLAY
  • The Mavericks started off hot in game two as UTA's offense put up five runs in their first at-bats from back-to-back doubles from Garcia and Hukill as well as two RBI-singles from Hines and Wideman.
  • The Panthers scratched their first run of the game in the second inning off an infield single.
  • Georgia State added one more run to make it a 5-2 game off an RBI-single in the fourth inning.
  • A sacrifice fly from Murphy and a single from Miller plated two more runs for the Mavericks to extend their lead 7-2.
  • The Panthers remained scoreless the rest of the way as UTA evened the series with a 7-2 victory.

The Mavericks will finish the three-game series against Georgia State Sunday with the first pitch at 12:00 p.m.
