SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team bounced back from a doubles point loss to win their 17
th match of the season and end the regular season with a victory. The Mavs head into the conference tournament 17-3 overall and 7-0 in Sun Belt play.
It was a battle for the teams in doubles competition. The Mavericks jumped out with a lead with
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons taking No. 3 doubles 6-2. The Roadrunners quickly answered, defeating
Bruna Casasampere and
Momoka Horiguchi 6-3 at No. 2. UTSA was able to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 over
Liz Chileno and
Nanaka Takeuchi.
Needing four singles match wins in order to win the match, the Mavericks got to business.
Carla Pons started the rally with a 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 to pick up the first Mav point.
Nanaka Takeuchi following with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 doubles to put the Mavs up 2-1.
The Roadrunners answered with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 over
Liz Chileno to even up the match at two point each.
The match was clinched by the Mavericks with
Almudena Boza and
Bruna Casasampere winning in straight sets at No. 4 and No .5, respectively. Boza won her match over Keegan McCain, 6-4, 6-1 while Casasampere took her match 6-2, 6-3 over Catalina Cabrique.
The teams decided to finish the match after the Mavs clinched it. The Roadrunners took the final match, defeating
Momoka Horiguchi at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 5-7, 10-5.
