MOBILE, Alabama – The UT Arlington softball team split the doubleheader at South Alabama Sunday afternoon as the Mavericks picked up a 7-4 win to end the day.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – Game 1 (L 3-1)
UTA's offense produced three hits from senior
KJ Murphy (1-3) who knocked her fifth home run on the season,
Courtney Ogle (1-3) and
Reagan Hukill (1-3).
Senior
JoJo Valencia got the start on the mound for UTA and threw two innings allowing one run off one hit.
The lefty struck out two batters across nine faced before being replaced by
Laura Henriksen.
Junior Henriksen went on to throw the remainder of the game allowing one run off three hits.
The Mavericks could not find a way to battle back as Valencia got the loss.
PLAY BY PLAY
- The Jaguars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a solo home run.
- South Alabama plated two more runs across in the second and third inning to extend their lead 3-0.
- Murphy put UTA on the board with their first run of the game off a solo home run to center field – making that her fifth of the year.
- UTA was unable to plate anymore runs across falling to the Jaguars 3-1 in game one.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – Game 2 (W 7-4)
Hines paced UTA at the plate finishing 2-3 where Murphy recorded her tenth double of the season and
Aileen Garcia notched a 3-run home run – making that her third long ball this year.

Jessica Carreon were the other four Mavericks were responsible amongst UTA's eight hits.
Head coach
Peejay Brun utilized three pitchers as
Kenedy Hines got the start in the circle and threw four innings allowing one earned run. Hines struck out three batters and allowed seven hits in her outing.
Allie Gardiner replaced Hines to pitch just 1.1 innings and allowed two earned runs off six hits.
Valencia made an appearance in the sixth inning and went on to earn her first save of the season.
PLAY BY PLAY
- UTA took a 3-0 lead in the second inning as Evans got the rally started with an RBI-single up the middle.
- The Mavericks got something started in the fifth inning as Murphy knocked an RBI-double to left field that would plate Hines across to make it 4-0.
- Garcia added on to the board with a 3-run bomb to extend UTA's lead 7-0.
- South Alabama remained scoreless through four innings before a 3-run shot would cut the deficit down to four.
- The Jaguars were able to score one more in the sixth inning to make it a 7-4 game.
- UTA kept South Alabama off the board to seal the win.
