ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team completed a doubleheader sweep over App State at Allan Saxe Field Saturday afternoon and now sit on an overall record of 16-28 with a Sun Belt record of 9-10.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – Game 1 (W, 2-0)
UTA produced three hits in the contest from the bats of
Kimber Cortemelia (1-3, 2 RBI),
KJ Murphy (1-3) and
Reagan Hukill (1-3).
Head coach
Peejay Brun utilized two arms in the circle as
JoJo Valencia earned the start on the mound. Valencia went on to pitch five shutout innings limiting the Mountaineers to just three hits.
Junior
Allie Gardiner came in for relief and went on to earn her fourth save of the season after keeping App State off the board for the remainder of the game.
From solid performances on the mound and on defense, the Mavericks picked up the 2-0 win giving senior Valencia her fourth win of the year.

- Cortemelia gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead in the second inning after she knocked an RBI- single to center field that plated Dariane Cram and Emily Evans.
- Valencia recorded three three up three down innings and five shutout innings limiting App State's lineup to just three hits.
- Gardiner stepped in for relief keeping the Mountaineers' bats quiet without allowing a single hit in her two innings pitched.
- The Mavericks kept App State off the board taking game one of the series 2-0.

Senior Murphy paced UTA's offense in game two finishing 3-3 at the plate with 4 RBI including knocking her sixth long ball of the season and bringing her RBI total to 31. Joining Murphy is freshman
Jessica Carreon and sophomore Hukill who both recorded a multi-hit game.
UTA relied on sophomore
Kenedy Hines in the circle who threw a complete game limiting the Mountaineers to just three hits across 24 batters faced and did not allow a single run across.
The right hander's solid performance helped seal the 6-0 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep earning her fifth win of the season.

- UTA took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after a fielding error allowed for one run to score followed by an RBI-single from Murphy that plated Carreon.
- Senior Murphy notched her sixth home run of the year over the right field wall to extend the Mavs' lead 5-0.
- The Mavericks carried their momentum into the sixth inning after Hukill score from a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Lindsey Franklin that made it a 6-0 game.
