Home Runs Push Bobcats From Mavericks

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team came out hot scoring first Saturday against the Bobcats, but fell short 4-2.

UTA heads into the Sun Belt Conference tournament with an overall record of 16-32 and a conference record of 9-14.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Shortstop Emily Evans led UTA's offense finishing 2-3 at the plate while sophomore Reagan Hukill (1-3, 1 RBI) and freshman Jessica Carreon (1-3, 1 RBI) were responsible for the Mavs' two runs.

Junior Allie Gardiner earned the start in the circle for the Mavericks and threw 3.1 innings allowing four runs of three hits before junior Laura Henriksen made a brief appearance in the circle.

Henriksen faced just one batter before freshman Gracie Bumpurs entered the game.

Bumpurs went on to throw the rest of the contest keeping the Bobcats off the board but the Mavs were unable to battle back falling 4-2 handing Gardiner the loss.

PLAY BY PLAY
  • In the Mavs' first at-bats, Carreon led things off with a walk followed by a line drive base-hit to right field from Murphy. After a sacrifice bunt from Aileen Garcia moved the runners to second and third, Hukill executed a perfect squeeze to score the first run of the game.
  • The Bobcats took the lead with two solo home runs in the second inning that made it a 2-1 game.
  • Carreon launched a triple in the right center gap in the fourth inning that scored pinch-runner Anjelica Gonzalez to tie it up 2-2.
  • Texas State answered right back with a solo shot in the that lifted them 3-2 over UTA.
  • A single through the right side plated another run for the Bobcats that made it 4-2 in the fourth inning.
  • The Mavs comeback bid fell short 4-2 in the final game of the series.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will head to Troy, Ala. for the Sun Belt Conference tournament that is set to begin Monday, May 11.
