ARLINGTON – His father is a coach. His great-grandfather was a coach. Coaching runs in Michigan State transfer
Jack Hoiberg's blood, but as UT Arlington head men's basketball coach
Greg Young makes sure to point out, he's also a great player.
Hoiberg – who spent the past four years with Michigan State – earned a scholarship this past season with the Spartans as a senior. He played in 14 games each of the past three seasons following a redshirt campaign as a freshman in 2017-18, and has been praised by Hall of Fame Coach Tom Izzo as one of the smartest, toughest players he has ever had at Michigan State.
"
Jack Hoiberg is one of the smartest, toughest and hardest-working players I've had at Michigan State. That's saying a lot for a kid given some of the players we've had here," said Izzo. "But Jack has always stood out. His ability to see the game and dissect it is exceptional, but make no mistake about it, he can play too and people will get the chance to see that when he takes the floor at UT Arlington.
"We put Jack on scholarship last year and that wasn't something we just handed out," Izzo added. "He earned that because of his hard work and dedication. And he earned the chance to play in some key games for us this past year because the coaching staff trusted him and his teammates did too. Everyone is thrilled for Jack getting the chance to play a bit more, and we can't wait to see him succeed."
