GRAND PRAIRIE – Freshman
Anne Arntsen continued her incredible start to her collegiate career with her second straight second place finish as the UT Arlington cross country teams each took consecutive second place finishes on Saturday morning at the UTA Season Opener at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake.
The women finished with 55 points as four racers finished inside the Top 20 individually while the men finished with 54 points and six individuals inside the Top 20 overall.
"We're making progress; we just need to learn how to race now," said Head Coach
John Sauerhage. "The competitions are going to compliment the training, and once we get a few more meets under our belt, we will really hit our stride."
After opening her collegiate career with a second place finish last week and weekly honors from the Sun Belt, Arnsten struck again with a strong performance, completing her first career 5k with a time of 17:46.9..
Senior
Valeria Diaz-Gonzales notched a Top 10 finish for the second straight week as she clocked in at 18:17.2 for an eighth-place finish. Senior
Madeleine Rowe and junior
Mathilde Ruud were side-by-side in their finish. Rowe finished 13th with a time of 18:51.4, while Ruud was 14th at 18:51.6.
Freshman
Claire Compher rounded out the racers with a time of 19:15.8 and a 22nd place finish.
Junior
Marquentin Barnes set a new PR for the second straight week, putting together a personal best in the 5k with a time of 15:07.9 and a sixth-place finish to lead the Mavs. Freshman
Alfredo Corona placed eighth with a time of 15:10.9 while sophomore
Patrick Estes ran to a 10th place finish with a time of 15:16.2.
Freshman
Sebastian Calderon placed 14th with a time of 15:36.0, followed by freshman
Jackson Cichon in 16th at 15:37.3 and sophomore
Tyler Rodriguez in 17th with a time of 15:38.5, a new PR.
The Mavs will return to action next Saturday morning as they head to Stillwater, Okla. to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree. The women will run in a 6k while the men will compete in the 8k.
