ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington track and field team looks to build on their early season success on Friday and Saturday afternoon as they compete in the Texas Tech Open & Multis at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.
"This meet in another opportunity for us to get better," said 33-time conference champion Head Coach
John Sauerhage. "We look to increase the pool of outstanding performances we have seen thus far this season.:
The even will include typical running and field events throughout the two-day meet as well as events in the heptathlon and the pentathlon.
The Mavericks return after another successful weekend at Texas A&M and Oklahoma, giving themselves a great start two weeks into the season.
Last weekend, junior
Joel Bengtsson set a new school record as he ran a 7.87 in the 60 hurdles to lead the UT Arlington track and field team at A&M. Bengtsson won the event at the Texas Aggie Invitational and matched a nearly 20-year-old record set by Paul Whitty in 2003. He was not done there as he went on to set a personal record in the 200 later that afternoon with a time of 21.81. His 7.87 run is good for 21st in the nation.
The Mavericks also got tremendous performances from junior
Marquentin Barnes as he shattered his personal record in the 3000 and senior
Lucas Van Klaveren as he finished first in the 600 and followed that up with a personal record in the 60 hurdles.
All-American
Bryson DeBerry will be in action as well as he is fifth in the country in the high jump.
Freshman
Iyana Gray will look to continue her stellar start in the 60 as she holds a first and second place finish this season. Senior
Tatyana Terrell will also look to keep rolling after Top 100 national performance in the 400.
Senior
Jade Bontke looks to build off a great week at OU, while freshman
Anne Arntsen will perform on the distance side.
