Lady Mavs Fall At No. 19 Baylor, Three-Game Win Streak Snapped

WACO, Texas --- The UT Arlington women's basketball team (5-5) had a three-game winning streak snapped in a 91-36 loss to No. 19/19 Baylor (7-2) on the road inside the Ferrell Center Wednesday night.

Taleyah Jones led the Lady Mavs in scoring with eight on 3-of-6 shooting, including a season-best two from long distance. Shyia Smith, who opened each half with an offensive rebound and layup, finished with seven points and three boards in 18 minutes. Kamaria Gipson registered six points, a team-best 10 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 22 minutes off the bench. It was her second double-digit rebounding performance of the season.

Baylor had five players reach double-digit scoring, led by 20 from Sarah Andrews. The host Bears made 11-of-21 from 3-point range and finished 35-of-62 (.565) from the field.

The Lady Mavs led 7-5 just under four minutes in on a 3-pointer from Alexsyah Goudeau, but a scoreless drought over the next 5:11 resulted in an 11-0 Baylor run, and the Bears led 18-9 through one, by 22 at halftime and as many as 57 with 1:41 left in the game.

UT Arlington will be back in action Sunday inside the College Park Center at 2 p.m. against Texas A&M – Texarkana.
