COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team's overall record dropped to 0-3 after falling to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 0-2 in extra innings. The Mavericks' second game of the day against Texas A&M was canceled due to inclement weather.
Saturday morning's game against the Islanders was a close battle as the Mavericks relied solely on the arm of
Jessica Adams – who threw a complete game. Adams' solid outing held Texas A&M – Corpus Christi from scoring through seven innings.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (L, 2-0, 8 INN)
KJ Murphy (2-4),
Reagan Hukill (1-3) and
Morgan Rios (1-3) were all responsible for the Mavericks' four hits of the contest as Murphy leads the squad with a .500 average at the plate going 4-8 over three games.
Freshman Adams got the start in the circle for the Mavs and went on to throw a complete game (8 innings) against the Islanders. Despite the loss, Adams had a strong performance on the mound as she allowed just six hits and one earned run.
The freshman's record now moves to 0-2.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (L, 2-0, 8 INN)
- The Mavericks and Islanders remained scoreless through seven innings as the game went into extra innings.
- In ITB (International Tie Breaker) with a runner placed on second base, Corpus Christi scored their first pair of runs off a single to right field along with a double off the left field wall.
- UTA, however, could not find a way to answer back after leaving a runner on third as they fell to the Islanders, 2-0 in eight innings.
ON DECK
UTA was originally scheduled to end tournament play against Western Kentucky on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. but due to weather, the Aggie Classic schedule has shifted as the Mavericks will now face Texas A&M at 12:30 p.m.
