Softball Concludes Aggie Classic Action

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team fell to Texas A&M Sunday afternoon in five innings to conclude Aggie Classic tournament action. The Mavericks' overall record now sits at 0-4.

Graduate student KJ Murphy paced UTA's offense throughout the weekend as she finished 4-10 (.400) at the plate with a .500 on-base percentage.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Texas A&M (L, 9-1, 5 INN)
Second baseman Jessica Carreon (1-2) and freshman Morgan Max (1-2) were responsible for UTA's two hits of the contest – Max's first hit of her collegiate career – off the arm of Texas A&M's Shaylee Ackerman.

Sophomore Gracie Bumpurs got her second start of the season in Sunday's contest. Bumpurs went on to throw 2.2 innings allowing five runs across 17 batters. Lefty Max came in for just .2 innings (3rd inning) before senior Laura Henriksen and freshman Jessica Adams made appearances.

Henriksen pitched 1 inning (4th inning) and faced five batters followed by Adams (5th inning) – who threw a short .1 innings.

The Mavericks struggled to gain any momentum offensively as they fell to the Aggies 9-1 giving Bumpurs the loss (0-2).

PLAY BY PLAY: vs. Texas A&M (L, 9-1, 5 INN)
  • The Mavericks came out strong in their first at-bats as Murphy and Carreon led things off with back-to-back walks. After another walk from Morgan Rios to load the bases, freshman Max came in clutch with a two-strike RBI-single that knocked Murphy in to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Aggies quickly answered back in the bottom of the first as a single and two Mavericks errors plated three runs making it a 3-1 game.
  • After a scoreless second inning, Texas A&M added four more runs in the bottom of the third off a pair of singles.
  • UTA struggled to keep that same momentum from the first inning as their offense went quiet for the remainder of the game. The Aggies went on to plate their final two runs across in the fourth and fifth inning, ending in a 9-1 run-rule.
ON DECK
UTA will resume action Wednesday (Feb. 16) when the team will head to El Paso for a midweek contest scheduled for 5:00 p.m. followed by the three-day Troy Cox Invitational hosted by New Mexico State (Feb. 17-19) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
