ARLINGTON- The UT Arlington men's tennis team underwent a 3-4 loss to Southern Arkansas, but came back and beat UT Tyler 5-2 later on Sunday.
The Mavericks started off by winning the doubles point against Southern Arkansas.
Habib Stambouli and
Ricardo Alban won first on Court 2, 6-2.
Alan Sau Franco and
Solano Caffarena followed, with a 6-4 win to secure the doubles point.
Solano Caffarena had to retire from his singles match at 4-6, 2-2 on court 3.
Alan Sau Franco and
Miguel Cabrera fell on courts 1 and 2, both with tight 6-7, 4-6 losses. After winning the first set 6-3,
Ricardo Alban lost the next two sets 6-7, 0-6 at the No. 4 spot.
After the Muleriders clinched the match in singles,
Maks Lukman and
Habib Stambouli fought hard and won their matches. Lukman won 6-1, 1-6, 10-8 in a third set tiebreaker on Court 5, while Stambouli won 7-6, 6-2 on Court 6.
UTA came back and won in the afternoon, after dropping the doubles point to UT Tyler.
Daichi Akiyoshi and
Miguel Cabrera were the first to finish with a tough 4-6 loss on Court 2.
Alan Sau Franco and
Maks Lukman followed with the same score on Court 1.
The Mavericks quickly turned the match around, with
Alan Sau Franco winning 6-0, 6-1 on Court 1 and
Ricardo Alban 7-5, 6-1 on Court 4.
Daichi Akiyoshi secured a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 3.
Miguel Cabrera came back in the first set and won his match 7-6, 6-1 on Court 2, clinching the match for the Mavericks.
Maks Lukman fell 4-6, 4-6 at the No. 5 spot, but
Habib Stambouli made up for it with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
