LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – The UT Arlington softball team picked up its first win of the season with a 6-5 victory of New Mexico State Thursday night in Las Cruces.
The Mavericks' record sits at 1-4 following Thursday night's victory heading into the second day of Troy Cox Classic tournament action.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. New Mexico State (W, 6-5)
UTA's offense recorded 10 hits against the Aggies as
KJ Murphy (2-4),
Jessica Carreon (2-3) and
Aaliyah White (2-3) tallied two hits apiece while
Morgan Max (1-3),
Reagan Hukill (1-3),
Morgan Westbrook (1-3) and
Jadyn Erickson (1-2) all knocked one.
Murphy led the team with two RBI and two doubles out of the Mavs' five doubles in the contest alone.

Gracie Bumpurs got the start in the circle for the Mavericks as she went on to throw just 0.2 innings before freshman
Morgan Max came in. Max faced 11 batters allowing one hit in 2.0 innings pitched.
Freshman
Jessica Adams came in for Max and threw the remainder of the game as she faced 19 Aggies while allowing just four hits. The Mavericks came out on top giving Adams here first win of the season.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. New Mexico State (W, 6-5)
- The Mavericks offense came out swinging as Murphy led the first inning off with a double to the left center wall before she advanced to third courtesy of a sacrifice bunt from Carreon. Senior Sophie Wideman came in clutch with the squeeze play to score Murphy.
- In the Aggies first at-bats, they answered back fast with five runs from a trio of home runs to make it a 5-1 game.
- UTA plated across four more runs four base hits over the 3rd and 4th inning that would make it a one-run call game (5-4).
- New Mexico State struggled to keep that same momentum from the first inning going as junior Hukill scored the go-ahead run that brought pinch runner Kaylee Cavazos around to take the lead, 6-5.
ON DECK
UTA will commence Friday's action beginning with an afternoon contest against Northern Colorado at 2 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. start against Iowa State at NM State Softball Complex.
