ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington baseball team (0-2) fell to the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders 6-2 at Clay Gould Ballpark on Saturday evening, 6-2 following an eighth-inning home run that broke a 2-2 tie.
The Mavericks used four pitchers in the loss.Â
Michael Wong (ND) earned his first career start, tossing 5.0 innings in the loss. The Las Vegas native allowed two runs off five hits and one walk, while striking out three batters. Conner Peters (1.0 IP) struck out one and gave up one hit in his lone inning.Â
Tanner King (L, 0-1) tossed 2.0 innings, allowing three runs off two hits. He struck out four batters and walked two.Â
Matt Novis (1.0) threw the final innin of relief, allowing one run off two hits.
The Mavericks out-hit the Islanders for a second game in a row, this time finishing with 11 hits.
Jaden Brown led the Mavericks with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while also driving in both runs with a two-RBI double.Â

Sam Crowell (2) both finished with multi-hit performances.
he Mavericks got on board first, dropping two runs in the bottom of the first. The first three batters reached base before Brown doubled off the center field wall to put UTA up 2-0.
The Islanders answered with one run in both the second and third innings to tie the game. An RBI double to right field scored the first run in the second inning, while a solo home run in the third tied the game.
With the game standing tied at two, the Mavericks loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning, but two ground balls resulted in a fielders choice and a simple throw to first as the Islanders escaped the inning.
With two outs in the eighth inning and two runners on base, the Islanders connected on their second home run of the game to put Corpus on top 5-2.
The Islanders came up with a security run in the top of the ninth to make it a four-run cushion, by a score of 6-2.
The Mavericks will look to close out the series with a win Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
