BEAUMONT – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (11-6) won their third straight match on Sunday, defeating Lamar 5-2 in Beaumont.
The Cardinals took an early lead, taking the doubles point over the Mavericks.
Alan Sau Franco and
Maks Lukman fell on line two 6-3 before
Miguel Cabrera and
Anton Shepp evened doubles with a 6-4 win at line one. It come down to court three, but
Daichi Akiyoshi and
Ricardo Alban were unable to get the win, falling in a 7-6 (7-5) battle.
Lamar continued with their momentum into singles action, taking the first match at line two 6-4, 6-1. That was the last points for the Cardinals, however, as the Mavericks found their groove in singles.
Solano Caffarena was the first to win, taking line six 6-0, 6-4.
On the court next to him,
Ricardo Alban evened the match with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win on court five.
Alan Sau Franco followed with a three-set win on line one (6-3, 5-7, 6-2).
Anton Shepp clinched the match for the Mavericks with a three-set win of his own, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
The afternoon ended with
Miguel Cabrera winning the fifth point of the match with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-6 win on court four.
UP NEXT
The Mavericks will host SBC foe Louisiana at the UTA Tennis Center next Friday (March 18) for a noon match with the Cajuns.
