LAST TIME AT LAKE CONROE
While it wasn't the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the last time UTA saw Walden on Lake Conroe GC almost exactly a year ago it won Sam Houston's Bearkat Invitational. The Mavs were victorious by seven shots with a 54-hole 13-under 851 total following a final-round 10-under 278, and in the process had Cox claim medalist honors by two shots thanks to a final-round 69 as part of a 6-under 210 total.

RECORD-SETTING SEASON SHAPING UP
The 2021-22 campaign is shaping up to be a potentially historic and record-setting season in terms of scoring average for the Mavericks. Currently, UTA has a 291.4 average score over 25 rounds; the current single-season scoring mark in program history is 291.09 by the 2008-09 squad.
Not surprisingly, the Mavs are also closing in on the single-season program record for par-or-better rounds with 11 in the aforementioned 25 opportunities. The 2008-09 team had 12 for the current all-time mark, but that came in 33 rounds.
UTA has gotten to that point thanks in large part to assaulting par 5s. The team for the year has a 4.72 scoring average on those holes, currently the best in program history (4.73 in 2019-20). Helping spur that par-5 scoring average are 13 eagles on the year, currently the 4th-most in single-season history (record: 15 in 2010-11).
INSIDE THIS WEEK'S LINEUP
- Cox
His 72.05 scoring average this year is 2nd to only teammate Gonzalez in terms of the current all-time single-season program record (more info: Gonzalez bullet below) … leads the team with 12 par-or-better rounds in only 19 opportunities, and his finish percentage of 73.5 is also the best … the opening-round 66 he posted last month at the Grand Canyon Invitational was the lowest of his career and the best number by any UTA player this season.
- Gonzalez
72.04 scoring average this year is currently on track to be the 2nd-best in single-season program history (current record: Gonzalez's 72.00 in 2019-20 in 21 rounds which was cut short due to COVID-19) … 4.06 par-4 scoring average this year is currently the 3rd-best in single-season program history (Jordan Krantz: 4.04 in 2004-05) … 4.68 par-5 scoring average is currently 2nd again to only his own 4.61 mark in 2019-20 … seven rounds in the 60s this year are the most on the team in 21 chances.
- Hicks
72.9 scoring average over 22 rounds … nine par-or-better performances to represent the 3rd-most on the team … has a pair of top-10 finishes, including last month at GCU thanks to rounds of 70-71-69 … best round of the year has been a 4-under 67 at SMU's Trinity Forest Invitational in early October.
- Miya
Will be making his first appearance since needing to withdraw with an ankle injury before the final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollege in early March … 75.18 average score over 11 rounds this year … has a pair of par-or-better rounds.
- Jones
After cracking the team lineup just once in the fall, he will be making his fourth appearance this spring … 73.10 scoring average in just 10 rounds this year is the 4th-best on the team … four par-or-better rounds in those 10 opportunities.
LAST TIME OUT
UTA didn't get the warmup it wanted heading into its final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship as the Mavericks were only able to get in one round at the Redhawk Invitational from Chambers Bay last week due to windy, cold and damp conditions in the Pacific Northwest. Play was stopped four times during Monday's opening 36 holes with the field only able to complete about a third of those before the first two rounds were canceled. In the 'final' round on Tuesday, the Mavs posted a 298 in chilly, breezy conditions again.
