MOBILE, Ala. – The UT Arlington softball team (22-27) was eliminated from the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday, losing in the consolation round to the No. 7 seed Georgia State (21-32), 5-3.
Seniors
Sophie Wideman and
Meagan Smith led UTA over the course of the tournament as they both hit .750 going 3-4 at the plate. The two tabbed one RBI apiece and a .857 on-base percentage.

KJ Murphy and
Meagan Smith paced the Mavericks' offense Thursday night as the pair came away with multi-hit efforts as Murphy went 2-3 and Smith 2-2.
Jadyn Erickson (1-2),
Sophie Wideman (1-2) and
Jessica Carreon (1-3) also contributed to UTA's seven hits.
Freshman lefty
Morgan Max tabbed another dominant performance in the circle as she threw 6.2 inning of work and limited the Panther's lineup to just five hits. Max came away with seven strike outs across 31 batters faced.
With the loss, Max ended the season with a 4-3 record on the mound.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. No. 7 Georgia State (L, 5-3)
- The Mavericks scored first in the bottom of the second after Meagan Smith led things off with a double to the left field wall. A grounder to the right side from Mountain allowed for Smith to move to third before Carreon knocked in Smith with a single through the left side.
- Smith struck again for the Mavs in the bottom of the third with an RBI-single through the right side that brought around Rios from second which made it a 2-0 ball game.
- UTA extended its lead to 3-0 after Georgia State's Emily Buck walked in a run in the bottom of the fifth.
- Georgia State tied things up 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning off an RBI-single and RBI-double. In the same inning, the Panthers jumped to a 5-3 lead after two more Maverick errors.
- The Mavericks struggled to answer back falling to Georgia State, 5-3.
ON DECK
With the loss, the Mavericks end their season with a 22-27 overall record and 12-15 Sun Belt Conference record.
