STATESBORO, Ga. – The UT Arlington baseball team wrapped up the season on Saturday morning, finishing Friday's postponed game against Georgia Southern with a 12-1 loss to the Eagles. With the loss and ULM's series win over Arkansas State, the Mavericks will miss the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
Cade Winquest (L, 2-4) started for the Mavericks and tossed two innings before the game was postponed for the day. Winquest allowed three runs off four hits and struck out four batters.
Matt Novis (2.0 IP) and
Trevor Pruitt (2.0 IP) allowed a combined nine runs in relief.
The Mavericks scored first, taking their first lead of the day, in the first inning.
Wilson Galvan hit an RBI single to score
Oscar Ponce.
The Eagles responded with a three-run inning in the home frame, including a two-run home run.
The game was postponed in the bottom of the third due to inclement weather that arrived in Statesboro and the two teams resumed action on Saturday morning.
As resumption occurred,
Matt Novis took over on the mound for
Cade Winquest from Friday night.
Following a scoreless third inning, the Eagles would use a four-run inning to take a 7-1 lead over the Mavericks.
Southern came back out in the sixth inning and used a two-out rally to score five runs, four of which were unearned.
Trailing 12-1 in the seventh, the Mavericks were unable to score the necessary runs to avoid the run-rule.
UTA ends the season 15-39 overall and 7-23 in the Sun Belt Conference.
