LAFAYETTE, La. – The UT Arlington baseball team fell to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns after a 9
th inning walk-off single on Friday night, 4-3.
Tanner King (ND) started for the Mavericks, tossing 7.0 innings. King struck out seven batters and allowed three runs off five hits.
David Moffat (L, 2-7) threw the final 1.1 innings, giving up one unearned run.
The two teams stood at a standstill as both pitchers were in firm control of the game throughout the first three innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth that the Cajuns were able to scratch a run across, using a trip and a ground ball to first to score the first run of the game.
The Mavericks used a strong sixth inning to take a brief lead over Louisiana. Two of the first four batters reached base to load the bases.
Wilson Galvan doubled to center field to drive in two runs before Matt Cavanagh drove in the third run with a single through the right side of the infield to put the Mavs up 3-1.
The lead was short-lived, as the Cajuns put runners on second and third before a hard single up the middle drove in both runs to tie the game.
With UTA unable to score, Louisiana needed to one run to win the game in the ninth inning. A single, walk and error loaded the bases. The Mavericks were able to through out an advancing runner at home for the first out, but a single through the right side of the infield was enough to drive in the game-winning run to give the Cajuns the Friday night win.
UTA will look to even the series tomorrow night (May 7) at 4 p.m. at Russo Park.
