ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington volleyball team continued the march toward the regular season with a three-set exhibition match sweep of Dallas Baptist inside the College Park Center on Friday afternoon.
The Mavericks had four players notch at least five kills while hitting .342 as a team, a performance which was highlighted by a strong second set that included 17 kills and a .571 hitting percentage.
In the opening set, UT Arlington finished on an 8-2 run, capped by a kill from
Sophie Skinner, to produce a 25-17 victory. The second set featured seven ties and three lead changes over the first 14 points (7-7). From there, however, the Mavericks took the lead and never relinquished it, securing six of the final nine points in a run that featured a pair of kills apiece from
Brianna Ford and
Meredith Fisher for a 25-18 triumph. The home squad then dominated the final set, scoring the first five points and jumping out to a 12-2 lead.
Mollie Blank concluded the match with a kill for a 25-11 victory.
UTA will open the regular season next Friday in the Farmers State Bank Invitational on the campus of the University of Montana. UC Davis will be the season-opening opponent at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 7:30 p.m. tilt against Montana before a match against North Dakota at 11 a.m. on Saturday to conclude the trip.
