ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's basketball team announced their non-conference schedule, including five home contests highlighted by a home match-up against Arizona, on Wednesday afternoon.
The tough 12-game non-league docket includes five teams who made the NCAA Tournament last season and three teams who competed in the WNIT. UTA will also include an exhibition contest prior to the regular season kicking off.
"We are so excited to announce our non-conference schedule," said Head Coach
Shereka Wright. "We had an unbelievable run last year and we as a staff felt it was important to continue to challenge our players to prepare us to compete for a championship in the WAC. The schedule includes eight teams who participated in postseason play last year. With this awesome schedule, I believe our fans will go and purchase season tickets and bring a friend to give us the home court advantage our ladies deserve."
Wright enters her third season at the helm as the Lady Mavs are coming off arguably their best season in program history, claiming the Sun Belt Conference Championship in their final season and battling 3rd-seeded Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament in Ames, eventually falling just eight points shy of becoming the first 14 seed in NCAA history to ever win a game in the tournament.
During the 20-8 season, UTA claimed the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 13 South Florida, 61-56, on Dec. 2, 2021. In just her second season with the Lady Mavs,
Shereka Wright was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year, in addition to also garnering Texas Coach of the Year by Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball.
Senior
Starr Jacobs returns after earning Sun Belt Player of the Year and becoming the first player in Lady Mavs history to average 20 points per game or more (21.0 per game). Jacobs also scored 28 points in each of UTA's three tourney games in Pensacola to be named Sun Belt Tournament MVP.

A season ago, Kansas was one of the great stories in women's basketball, going 21-10 overall and 11-7 in the Big 12 under Big 12 Coach of the Year Brandon Schneider. The Jayhawks reached their first NCAA Tournament since 2013 and earned a win over No. 9 Georgia Tech in the first round. They eventually saw their season end in the season round to top-seeded Stanford.
