NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the second consecutive weekend, the UT Arlington men's cross country dominated the field en route to a team victory, placing first at the Lumberjack Collegiate Invitational at Pecan Acres Park on Saturday morning.
The men finished with 33 points, including four runners in the top 10 and seven runners in the top 15. The UTA women placed third with 78 total points.
"We have a solid men's team that is very young and talented," said Head Coach
John Sauerhage. "We are healthy and ready to get to work and see how fast we can go this year."
The men made the jump from a 5k one week ago to an 8k this week, but it did not slow the Mavericks down as they put together a tremendous race littered with PRs throughout the lineup.
Fresh off an individual win last weekend, sophomore
Alfredo Reina Corona put together another outstanding performance, placing third overall with a time of 24:22.6 to lead the pack, a new PR in the 8k.
Freshman
Rogelio Aguirre built off his impressive debut a week ago with a fifth-place finish with a time of 24:27.0 followed closely by junior
Patrick Estes in sixth with a time of 24:45.9, a new PR.
Sophomore Ole Miss transfer
Jeriel Algarin-Marquez made his debut in the orange and blue with an seventh-place finish with a time of 24:47.1, while freshman
Brian Guevara rounded out the scoring for the Mavericks with a time of 25:16.1 and a 12th place finish.

Andrés Gurrola, placed 13th with a time of 25:22.0, while sophomore
Jackson Cichon was 14th with a time of 25:25.4, a new PR.
Freshman
Josue Granados added a top 20 finish with a time of 25:37.2, while freshman
Brandon Wilk followed at 26:01.3.
Rounding out the Mavs was junior
Tanner Henderson (26:14.2 – PR), junior
Jacob Ye (26:46.8), and senior
Tyler Rodriguez (26:56.2).
On the women's side, the Mavericks again ran a 5k, similar to last week. Freshman
Lauren Walls-Portillo led the Mavericks with a time of 17:45.9 to earn her first-career top 10 finish as she came in at ninth.
"Our women put together a respectable race," added Sauerhage. "Our freshmen girls all ran well led by Lauren."

Krianne McBride followed with a time of 17:57.7 to place 14th, while freshman
Rachael Hartley followed with a time of 18:10.8.
Sophomore
Claire Compher ran to a time of 18:26.3 to finished 17th, while freshman
Scarlett Johnson rounded out the Mavs with a 22nd finished at 18:55.6.
All five times for the UTA women were massive PRs on the day.
UTA will take the next weekend off before returning to action on Friday, September 30 as they compete at the massive Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
