ARLINGTON, Texas –
Brianna Ford led three Mavs with double-doubles as the UT Arlington volleyball team (1-3) took down Texas A&M-Commerce 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 in the UTA Classic on Friday inside the College Park Center.
"We had a fantastic crowd tonight," UTA head coach
J.T. Wenger said. "It was a lot of fun. I think we found our rhythm a little bit after that first set. We were able to hold them under 20 in the final three, so that's always a good accomplishment. I think we have a ways to go with our game in terms of terminating more balls but we're happy to come away with the win."
Ford hit .308 while registering 19 kills, 17 digs and five blocks in what was her 13th career double-double.
Jalie Tritt notched her first career double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. It was the freshman's second consecutive match with double-digit kills.
Mollie Blank totaled 38 assists, 13 digs and seven kills for her team-best 15th career double-double, which she clinched in the second set.
Defensively,
Alli Wells produced a match-high 28 digs to push her career total to 1,252, which allowed her to surpass Madelyn St. Germain (1,233, 2016-19) for the 17th-most digs in program history. Next up is Heather Hoy (1,275, 1994-97) and Shari Parks (1,276, 1984-87).
Alyssa Duran led the team with three aces while adding eight digs.
Kortney Puckett led all players with six blocks.
UT Arlington will be back in action twice on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. against Providence before facing North Texas at 6:30 p.m. The evening match will feature a white out and the first 150 students through the door will get a free t-shirt.
