ARLINGTON – For the third-consecutive year, the UT Arlington men's and women's basketball programs have teamed up with Moncrief Cancer Institute to help bring cancer screening programs to the Arlington community.
A year-long initiative by the athletic department, the basketball game recognition will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4, as part of a doubleheader with the Lady Mavericks taking on Utah Tech at 1 p.m. and the men following versus Sam Houston at 4 p.m.
The fundraising goals for each program vary in terms of cause. Women's basketball will be raising resources to battle breast cancer, while men's basketball will be doing the same for melanoma cancer.
As part the fundraising push, UTA Beats Cancer t-shirts in both black (melanoma) and pink (breast) will be available for purchase at both games. They can also be secured in advance online by visiting the
men's shop here and the
women's shop here.
In addition to branded t-shirts, monetary donations to help both teams fulfil their fundraising efforts have also been set up online with the
men's here and
women's here.
The UTA Beats Cancer initiative is a year-round effort that begins in the fall with volleyball and concludes in the spring with the baseball and softball teams.
Proceeds benefit local cancer patient and outreach platforms in Arlington through the Moncrief Cancer Institute to provide those in medically underserved communities with screening programs that help detect cancer at its earliest stage.
