Ford moves into top 15 in career kills, UTA falls in five to Utah Tech

ST. GEORGE, UTAH --- Brianna Ford secured a spot among the top 15 attackers in program history on Saturday as the UT Arlington volleyball team (16-7, 5-5 WAC) was defeated 21-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10 by Utah Tech (8-12, 4-6) on the road inside Burns Arena.

Despite the loss, Ford continued her phenomenal play by registering a match-best 17 kills along with 13 digs, four blocks, two aces and one assist. In doing so, she not only tallied her sixth-consecutive double-double but she surpassed Zhanelle Geathers (1,132, 2014-18) for 15th place on the program's all-time terminations list.

The senior outside hitter now has 1,139 kills, which puts her 10 shy of surpassing Shari Parks (1,148, 1984-87) for 14th. Furthermore, she is averaging 19.3 kills, 13 digs, 4.3 blocks, 1.7 aces and 1.3 assists over the past six matches.

Ford and Jalie Tritt each tallied five kills in the opening set as UTA hit .273 as a team. Tritt then joined Sophie Ocampo with four terminations apiece in the second set as the Mavs hit .342 in the frame and jumped out to a two-set lead in the match.

Over the final three sets, however, UTA hit .031 as a team while Utah Tech only had 10 attack errors over the final three frames. In fact, the Mavs had 10 attack errors in the third set alone.

Despite the struggles over that stretch, the Mavs got a WAC career-high 16 terminations from Tritt, who also added 11 digs and three blocks for her sixth career double-double – five of which have come this season.

On top of that, Ocampo matched her career high with 11 kills while recording the third double-digit performance of her redshirt freshman campaign. She also contributed five digs.

Paige Reagor collected her fourth straight match with double-digit kills, finishing with 10 along with her match-best eight blocks. Over her past four matches, the senior middle blocker has 60 kills and 30 blocks.

That offensive production was aided by the performance of Mollie Blank, who produced her third career performance with at least 50 assists as the senior setter tallied an even 50 distributions along with seven digs. She finished just three shy of matching her career-best set in 2021.

Meanwhile, Alli Wells inched closer to reaching the 2,000 career dig milestone, finishing with a team-best 14 along with four assists to push her all-time total to 1,979. She is also only 55 shy of breaking Alicia Shaffer's (2,033, 2008-11) program record.
With the loss, UTA fell to 0-2 all-time against Utah Tech as the Trailblazers also produced a five-set win in last year's lone matchup.

UTA will finish a three-match road trip at UTRGV on Saturday at 2 p.m. before returning home for the final three home tilts of the campaign.

NOTES
With the loss, UTA fell to 3-3 in five set matches this year.

Ford now has 12 double-doubles this year and 38 overall in her career, which puts her one shy of matching Chris Rudiger (39) for 14th-most in the program's history since 1987.
