UTA Individuals Complete Fall Campaign At DBU Classic

DALLAS – For the second day in a row, Shoichiro Kato led a quartet of UT Arlington men's golfers who competed as individuals at the DBU Fall Classic from the esteemed Golf Club of Dallas, completing the fall season for the Mavericks.

Playing in a steady rain throughout most of the final round, Kato was able to piece together a respectable round of 73 on the 6,719-yard layout. That score was nearly three shots better than the field average on a rare weather-impacted day in DFW as the scoring average was 75.76 across 88 golfers.

For his efforts, Kato posted a top-15 showing at +4 for the week, and was tied for the 2nd-highest finish by an individual on the overall leaderboard behind only Baylor's Tyler Isenhart (-3).

Two other UTA members also got into the clubhouse better than the field scoring average as Michael Chevalier and Alberto Menacho both signed for rounds of 75, while Trent Griessel was just behind with a 76.

INSIDE THE SCORES
KATO
Starting on the 13th hole in the shotgun format, Kato got off to a solid start through his first eight holes with six pars and just one bogey offset by a birdie. However, he played holes 3-5 in +4 with a pair of bogeys and a double which unfortunately derailed an otherwise under-par round. The junior transfer was able to card another birdie on the par-4 7th hole and notched pars on his remaining five holes to finish at 73 (+3).

GRIESSEL
The Washington native grabbed a birdie on his first hole, the par-4 15th; however, that would be his only under-par hole of the day. The junior finished with five bogeys and a double to post a 76 (+6).

CHEVALIER
The freshman, starting on the 16th hole, rolled in just one birdie along with four bogeys and a double for a final-round 75 (+5).

MENACHO
The graduate student from Peru was unable to card any birdies in his final round, posting five bogeys en route to a 75 (+5).

THIS AND THAT
Kato ranked T-2 in par-3 scoring average for the week with a 2.83 (-2) … Griessel finished tied for 9th in par-5 scoring average at 4.50 (-3) … Kato led UTA with 10 birdies over the three rounds … the field scoring average for the final round was nearly three shots higher than Monday's 2nd round (72.89).

NEXT UP
UTA will have a 3+ month hiatus before it opens up the spring season south of the border at the Los Vaqueros in Cancun, Mexico, at Playa Paraiso Golf Club from Feb. 5-7.
