Reagor's strong play not enough, Mavs fall in three at GCU

UTA opens postseason play next week

PHOENIX, ARIZ. --- Despite 11 kills from Paige Reagor, the UT Arlington volleyball team (20-9, 9-7 WAC) fell victim to several runs in a 25-16, 25-19, 25-13 loss to Grand Canyon (20-7, 13-3 WAC) on the road Saturday inside GCU Arena.
 
With the loss, the Mavs are now finished with regular season play and will open up the WAC tournament next week.
 
Reagor finished with 11 kills while hitting .348 along with two digs and a block. Briana Brown (6) and Brianna Ford (5) combined to added 11 kills, while Ford chipped in 10 digs and an ace.
 
Mollie Blank distributed 27 assists with four digs and two kills, while Alli Wells led the defense with 13 digs.
 
In the opening set, the Mavs led 11-9 following the second kill of the frame from Ava Burroughs, who made her fourth start of the season. Grand Canyon, however, went on a 9-0 run that featured three aces from Tatum Parrott. 
 
The second set featured a 7-0 GCU run after UTA led 8-3 to open the frame. A kill from Ford ended the run, but the hosts responded by scoring seven of the next eight points to open up a 17-11 lead. UTA responded with back-to-back kills from Reagor and Brown along with an ace from Ford, but Grand Canyon added a 3-0 run of their own and finished off the set with a six-point win.
 
Grand Canyon took control of the third set with an 8-1 run that allowed them to open up an 18-7 lead.
 
Reagor's 11 kills gives her double digits in nine of the past 10 matches. She is hitting .517 over the past six matches alone.
