ARLINGTON ---
Brianna Ford (First Team) and
Paige Reagor (Second Team) both earned recognition on Wednesday as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced its annual volleyball postseason awards.
"It's great to have two athletes represented on the all-conference teams," UTA head coach
J.T. Wenger said. "Bri and Paige have worked very hard all year, and it is a fantastic recognition. These awards are not only a representation of their individual success, but the overall performance and success of the program."
Â
Ford becomes the program's first two-time First Team All-WAC honoree, and she's the first two-time first team all-conference selection in the program since Madison Hill did it in the Sun Belt in 2018 and 2019. In fact, she is the 14th such player in program history, the fifth since 1998 and only the second since 2011.
Â
An Amarillo native, Ford led UTA to a 20-9 regular season and a 9-7 WAC mark behind career-bests in kills (413), kills per set (3.93), hitting percentage (.258), digs (288), digs per set (2.74), blocks (87) and points (492). She added a career-best 16 double-doubles, as well, including 10 over the final 12 matches and six straight at one point in conference play. Over that 12-match stretch, Ford is averaging 17.1 kills, a .262 hitting percentage, 12.9 digs, 4.3 blocks, 1.3 aces and one assist per outing.
Â
In a Nov. 9 win over California Baptist, Ford hit .309 with 24 kills, 12 digs and a career-high nine blocks as she nearly became the first player in the program's past 13 years to record a triple-double. She settled for her 42nd career double-double, which moves her into a tie with Shawn Sweeten for the 11th-most in program history (1985-present). Her 1,228 career kills also puts her within 17 of surpassing Fannie Burton (1,245, 1991-94) for 12th on the program's all-time list.
Â
Additionally, Ford was a two-time WAC Player of the Week (9/6, 10/11) and earned MVP recognition at the UTA Classic and UTA Invitational. She had double-digit kills in 23 of 29 matches and double-digit digs in 17 outings - including five straight to close the season.
Â
Ford joins the following group of Mavs to claim at least two first team all-conference selections: Katie Weismiller (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986), Ana de Oliveira (1985, 1986, 1987, 1988), Valeria Whitfield (1990, 1991, 1992), Heather Hoy (1995, 1996, 1997), Michele Humbach (1982, 1984), Teresa Ogden (1982, 1983), Jackie Bennett (1987, 1988), Shawn Sweeten (1988, 1989), Jessica Bowlin (1997, 1998), Torie Dacus (2006, 2007), Amanda Aguilera (2008, 2010), Tara Frantz (2009, 2011) and Madison Hill (2018, 2019).
Â
Reagor, meanwhile, overcame an injury early in the season that caused her to miss nine matches to produce career-bests in kills (213), hitting percentage (.385), digs (24), digs per set (0.31), blocks per set (1.12) and points (261.5). In 20 matches, she produced 12 with double-digit kills and eight with 5+ blocks.
Â
Over the past 10 matches, Reagor played her best volleyball with averages of 13.1 kills, a .426 hitting percentage and 4.8 blocks per outing. She had double-digit terminations in nine of those, including a season-best 22 kills against Southern Utah, and she produced 72 kills with just 10 errors while hitting .525 over the final six matches.
On Oct. 14 against Tarleton, Reagor became the first UTA volleyball player to record a double-double in kills and blocks since Briana Sharatt totaled 10 kills and 11 blocks against Texas Southern on Sept. 12, 2014. In fact, Reagor produced just the 20th kill-block double-double in the program's history since 1987, and she's just the 12th player since then to record at least one.
Â
A senior middle blocker who spent her first three seasons at Charleston Southern, this is Reagor's second career all-conference honor along with a First Team All-Big South selection in 2020. She was named the WAC Player of the Week on Aug. 30 and claimed MVP recognition at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic to open the season.
