SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
The Wildcats are coming off a 87-62 win over Navy, improving to 3-2 on the young season. Freshman Payton Hull dropped 34 points against Navy and hit nine three-pointers, tying the school Division I era for both categories and earned the WAC Newcomer of the Week honors. GOOD AS ADVERTISED
Avery Brittingham is living up to the expectations as the First-Team All WAC performer from a season ago at Stephen F. Austin, is showing why Coach Wright went after her in the transfer portal. She has done a little bit of everything for the Lady Mavs, leading UTA in several statistical categories such as rebounds per game (8.5), assists (18), steals (10), three-point percentage (.455) and is second on the team in average points per game (12.5).
Through six games this season, Brittingham has posted a double-double in three of those contests. This has her ranked 15th in the country and 1st in the conference
Brittingham has also been a menace on the boards in the infant stages of the season, averaging 8.5 rebounds per contest to lead the Lady Mavs which also has her ranked 75th in the NCAA and 2nd in the WAC. In the six games so far this season, Brittingham has pulled down 51 rebounds, tops in the conference and 106th in the country. She seems to be at her best on the defensive end where she averages 7.2 defensive rebounds per game, tops in the WAC and 23rd best in the NCAA.
FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE
The Lady Mavs are one of the best teams in the country when it comes to getting to the free throw line, averaging 21 free throw attempts per game. This is the 64th best mark in the country and 3rd best in the WAC behind California Baptist (26 - 10th in NCAA) and SFA (24.20 - 15th in NCAA).
The 14.50 free throws made per game has the Lady Mavs 4th in the WAC and 70th in the NCAA while their 69-percent from the charity stripe is 185th best in the nation and 7th best in the conference.
MAKING IT RAIN
The Lady Mavs average 19 three-point attempts per game, 191st in the NCAA and the 8th best mark in the WAC. Their 28.9 percentage from beyond the arc is the 4th best three-point percentage in the conference.
The tandem of
Taliyah Clark and
Hannah Humphrey lead the charge for the Lady Mavs, with Clark hitting 11 three-pointers so far this season to pace UTA while Humphrey has hit eight threes. Brittingham's 46 shooting percentage from deep leads the Lady Mavs.
The Lady Mavs drained 11 three-pointers in their first contest of the 2023-24 season. They went 11-22 from beyond the arc for a .500 shooting percentage.
