CELINA, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team split day one of the Tracy Beard College Classic after defeating nationally-ranked Kentucky Friday at Old Celina Park.

The Mavs' second game against North Texas ended in a 0-8 five-inning loss, placing UTA with a 4-2 overall record.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. #16 Kentucky (W, 4-2)
Fifth year catcher
Sophie Wideman paced the Mavericks' offense going 2-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI courtesy of a 2-run home run, making that her first long ball of the season.
Senior
Reagan Hukill contributed to UTA's four-hit total as the outfielder finished 1-3 with an RBI.

Freshman Waiters threw the remainder of the contest for the Mavs as she faced 18 batters and kept the Wildcats off the board, earning her first collegiate win.

- The Mavericks didn't stop there as Hukill plated one more run across off an RBI-double – her first of the year – in the top of the third.
- Kentucky's bats were quiet through the first two innings before a two-run home run in the bottom of the third cut the deficit in half.
