ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team dropped the series opener to McNeese by a final score of 10-4.
It was a tightly contested ball game for 6 full innings before costly errors in the 7th and 8th innings doomed the Mavericks which led to 8 runs for McNeese.
It was a solid pitching effort all around for the Mavericks, using 4 pitchers on the night. As a unit, the Mavs mowed down 14 batters as opposed to walking 7 for the game.
Gabe Starks got the start on the mound for UTA, going 6 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 unearned, on 3 hits. He struck out a career and season high 7 batters while walking only 3.
Thomas Kuykendall took the loss for the Mavs in 1 inning of work giving up 6 runs, 3 unearned and striking out 3.
Jack Hagan pitched the 8th inning, giving up 2 runs, 1 unearned, on 1 hit and striking out 3.
Gage Singer pitched the 9th, striking out 1 while giving up no hits.
Offensively, UTA finished with 5 hits as a team and 3 RBIs. Freshman
Ryan Black led the way with 3 hits in 4 at-bats and driving in 2 runs, to move his average to .476 which now leads the team.
Tyson Pointer finished with 1 hit and drove in the other RBI for the Mavs. To round out the hits for the Mavericks was
Ben Lumsden who finished with 1.
UTA looks to bounce back and even the series tomorrow with game 2 scheduled for a 2 pm start time.
