ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team close out the series with a big 12-6 win over the McNeese State Cowboys.
The Mavericks belt out 12 hits over the course of the game, with every starter recording a hit and starting pitcher
Caden Noah tossing his second gem of the year.
The Mavs were able to overcome a homerun on the first batter of the game for McNeese, with
Matt Cavanagh reaching on an error by the second baseman which led to
Sam Crowell scoring in the bottom of the 3rd. McNeese would plate a runner in the top of the 4th to go up 2-1.
In the bottom of the 4th, Crowell hit a 3-run homerun to right field to put the Mavs up 4-2, a lead they never relinquished. The Mavs would go on to score runs in every inning after that besides the 8th inning.
Ryan Black had an RBI single in the 5th.
Matt Cavanagh singled up the middle in the 6th to drive in 2 runs.
Tyson Pointer hit a 2 run double to right field with
Garrison Berkley joining the party with an RBI single to left field, all in the 6th.
Steven Saunders hit an RBI single in the 7th to round out the scoring barrage for the Mavericks.
Saunders, Berkley and
Cason Gregory finished the game with 2 hits apiece. Cavanagh,
Ben Lumsden, Black, Pointer, Crowell and
Wilson Galvan all finished with 1 hit apiece. Crowell led the Mavs with 3 RBIS, while Pointer and Cavanagh finished with 2 RBIs each. Saunders. Black and Berkley each chipped in with 1 RBI apiece.
Starting pitcher
Caden Noah went 6 strong innings, facing 24 batters on 91 pitches. He gave up 3 runs, 1 unearned, on 4 hits while fanning 6 and walking 1. Noah moves to 2-0 on the season.
Zach Norris relieved Noah, pitching 3 innings and throwing 58 pitches. He allowed 3 runs, 1 unearned, on 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. Norris picked up the save for the Mavs, his first of the season.

UTA will welcome 2022 national runner-up Oklahoma to Clay Gould Ballpark this upcoming Wednesday, March 1. The Sooners come in with a 4-4 record. This will be their first away game of the year, as they are 4-3 at home and 0-1 at neutral site games. They are currently riding a 2-game win streak, as they took the final 2 games of the series against Rider by scores of 7-2 and 11-1. This will be the first match up between the 2 squads since former assistant coach
Clay Van Hook took over the helm for the Mavericks. First pitch is slated for 6:32 pm.
