WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team dropped its midweek contest Tuesday night at No. 10 Baylor in five innings from Getterman Stadium.

Baylor outhit UTA 10-2 as
Paris Brienesse (1-3) and
Sophie Wideman (1-2) were the only Mavericks who came away with a hit in Tuesday night's matchup.

Gracie Bumpurs earned the start on the mound against the ranked Bears as she went on to toss 3.2 innings of work before freshman
Tamya Waiters entered the circle in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Waiters faced eight Bears allowing four runs off two hits and five walks. The Mavericks couldn't get anything going giving Bumpurs her third loss of the season.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. #10 Baylor (L, 0-8)
- Baylor took an early 2-0 lead after Shaylon Govan knocked a one-out RBI-single to right field that brought around the first two runs of the game.
- In the bottom of the third, Baylor scratched one more run across off a UTA error that extended its lead to 3-0 heading into the fourth inning.
- After a single from Wideman and a walk from Castruita, the Mavericks had runners on first and second with Lindsey Franklin up. Unfortunately, UTA went on to strand two runners unable to plate any across.
- The Bears added one more to the board with an RBI-double from Amber Toven that placed Baylor up 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
- Back-to-back walks with the bases loaded and a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth put the Bears up 7-0 with no outs. Unfortunately, an infield single scored the final run of the game ending in an 8-0 run-rule.
ON DECK
To commence March action, the Mavs will host Kansas City, Lamar and Rider as part of the 4th Boerner Invitational – their second and final home tournament of the season. The Boerner Invitational – named in honor of Melissa Boerner, a former UTA softball captain who was killed by a drunk driver the day before her senior year began in 1998 – is to help raise awareness to the importance of responsible drinking.
