STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks (7-8, 2-1 WAC) fell to the Tarleton Texans (11-5, 1-2 WAC) at Tarleton Baseball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks used four pitchers on the afternoon, with
Caden Noah (ND) getting the start on the mound and going 4 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 3.
Bryce Hackett came in for relief of Noah to face his former team, going 3 innings allowing no runs and 3 hits.
Zach Norris faced 2 batters in relief, while
Connery Peters (L, 0-2) went the final 1.1 innings.
UTA finished with 12 hits with
Wilson Galvan leading the way, going 3-5 and driving in 1 run.
Tyson Pointer finished 2-3 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI on the afternoon.
Garrison Berkley finished 2-5, driving in 1 run.
Cade Sumbler went 2-4 and driving in 1 run while
Ryan Black finished the game going 2-5.
Following a scoreless first 2 innings, the offense started clicking in the third with Berkley driving in Sumbler. The Texans answered back in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own to tie the ballgame.
UTA would escape some jams the following innings, leaving 2 Texan runners on the bases to end the fourth with a fielder's choice to the shortstop to get the short out at second base. In the fifth, the Texans would get a runner to third and attempt a suicide squeeze, but Hackett was able to make a play, flipping the ball out of his glove to Sumbler to nail the runner at the plate.
The Mavs would plate 2 runs in the sixth thanks to a Pointer double down the left field line to drive in Black and a 2 out single from Sumbler to score Galvan. UTA would score 1 more run in the seventh off a Galvan single to score Black.
Tarleton would go on to score 3 runs in the eighth to tie the ball game up before walking off the Mavs in the ninth.
