Mavericks Fall On The Road At No. 22 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (7-9, 2-1 WAC) fell to the 22nd ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders on Tuesday night at Rip Griffin Park by a final score of 10-1.

Andrew Lucas (L, 0-1) started for the Mavericks in the loss, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1, in 2.0 innings pitched. In relief, Gray Bailey went 2.0 innings pitched giving up 2 hits and no runs. Gage Singer (1.1 IP), Thomas Kuykendall (2.0 IP), and Joe Steeber (0.2 IP) combined to toss the finals innings in relief.

Offensively, the Mavericks had 9 hits for the game led by Garrison Berkley who had a career day at the plate with 4 hits to lead the Mavs. Berkley finished the day 4-5 and scored the lone run of the game for UTA. Ryan Black finished the game with 2 hits, Wilson Galvan with 1 hit, Sam Crowell with 1 hit and Reed Thomas picked up his first hit of the season in a pinch-hit spot to round out the offensive output for the Mavs.

It was a close game through five innings of play until the Red Raiders created some separation in the sixth, plating four runs to go up 6-0.

UTA would plate one run in the eighth but could do no further damage as they would strand the bases loaded to end the threat.

Texas Tech would answer back, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the inning to take a commanding 10-1 lead.
