ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (8-12, 3-3 WAC) fell to Abilene Christian (16-4, 5-1 WAC) after the Wildcats scored six runs in the top of the 9th inning to claim a 12-7 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, with the first three batters of the game reaching base safely. The Wildcats chipped away, scoring one run in the top of the 3rd inning, and tying the game in the top of the 4th inning.
In the bottom half of the 4th inning, the UTA offense exploded for five runs to give the Mavericks a commanding 7-2 lead. Abilene Christian continued to hang around, plating two runs in the 6th inning and two runs in the 7th inning to make it a one run ballgame.
In the 9th inning, the Wildcats struck for six runs to go up 12-7 on the Mavericks and that's how the game would end.
Offensively, every starter for the Mavericks collected a hit, finishing with 11 hits total as a team on the afternoon. The charge was led by
Ryan Black who went 2-5, driving in two runs and smacking his third homerun of the year, a no doubter to right field.
Garrison Berkley finished with two hits on the afternoon while scoring one run.
Seven Mavericks finished the game with one hit for the day,
Ben Lumsden,
Tyson Pointer,
Cade Sumbler,
Wilson Galvan,
Tyler Rice,
Sam Crowell, and
Zach Henry. Lumsden drove in two runs while Sumbler and Crowell each drove in one run.
Caden Noah (ND) started on the mound for the Mavericks, tossing 5.1 innings. Noah struck out four batters and allowed four runs off seven hits. In relief of Noah,
Zach Norris went 1.2 innings and striking out one batter while giving up two runs on three hits.
Connery Peters (L, 0-3) came into the game looking for his seventh save on the season in what would have been a two inning save. Peters went 1.1 innings, allowing six runs, one unearned, and striking out one batter.
Bryce Hackett tossed the final 0.2 innings, not allowing a hit.

The Mavericks will host Tarleton for one non-conference midweek game on Tuesday, March 21, before heading to Houston for a weekend of non-conference action. UTA will play a doubleheader on Friday, March 24, squaring off with Northwestern at 1:30 p.m. and against the Cougars of Houston at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, the Mavs take on Northwestern at 1:30 p.m. and round out the weekend on Sunday, March 26, as they battle Houston with game time slated for 1 p.m.
