RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UT Arlington softball team fell to California Baptist Saturday afternoon in the final game of the series with a score of 12-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at California Baptist (L, 12-1)
The Mavs put up just two hits Saturday as
Marley Neises (1-2) and
Nikki Donahue (1-1) were the pair responsible.
Tamya Waiters threw 3.1 innings for the Mavs, facing 30 batters before junior
Gracie Bumpurs came in and tossed to just three Lancers.
The Mavericks couldn't find a way to scratch any more runs across, falling 12-1, giving Waiters the loss.
PLAY BY PLAY: at California Baptist (L, 12-1)
- The Lancers scored first with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first from the bat of Kayla Lyon.
- CBU extended its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third after a sacrifice fly and 2-run home run plated three more runs.
- Neises ripped a double to center field before advancing to third on a passed ball. Although Westbrook grounded out to shortstop, it would plate UTA's first run of the game that made it a 6-1 ball game heading into the bottom of the fourth.
- The Lancers went on to pile on six runs in the bottom of the fourth after four walks, two hit-by-pitch and an RBI-single.
- UTA couldn't get anything going in the top of the fifth, ending in a 12-1 run-rule.
ON DECK
UTA will be right back at home next Wednesday (Mar. 29) for a DFW Metroplex midweek matchup with North Texas with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
