SEATTLE, Washington – The UT Arlington baseball team (12-15, 3-4 WAC) lost 5-4 against Seattle U (6-16, 4-6 WAC) Friday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.
Gabe Starks started on the mound for UTA and tossed a career high 7.0 innings, allowing four runs, none earned, on three hits while striking out six and walking two.
Gray Bailey finished the game, allowing one run on two hits and striking out one to take the loss for the Mavs.
Offensively, the Mavericks outhit the Redhawks seven to five.
Ben Lumsden hit his seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot to right field in the top of the 6th.
Cade Sumbler,
Tyson Pointer,
Wilson Galvan,
Tyler Rice, and
Sam Crowell all finished the game with one hit for the Mavs.
UTA struck first, plating two runs in the 2nd thanks to Galvan who reached base on an error by the Redhawks third baseman to bring home Sumbler. Galvan would end up scoring the second run of the inning on a balk by Seattle U's pitcher. The Redhawks would tie the game at two runs apiece in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
The Mavericks would retake the lead in the top of the 6th thanks to Lumsden's two-run home run. Seattle U would tie the game in the bottom half of the 6th thanks to an error from the Mavericks defense.
The Redhawks would go on to take the lead, their first lead of the game, in the bottom of the 8th thanks to a solo home run to right field.
UTA threatened in the top of the 9th, loading the bases but were unable to plate a run.

Game two of the series is set for a 4 p.m. central start time at Bannerwood Park.
