ST. GEORGE, Utah– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (12-2, 5-0 WAC) remains undefeated in conference play after sweeping Utah Tech 7-0 at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts on Friday.
The Mavericks swept all three doubles courts to gain the 1-0 advantage. They have won five consecutive doubles points, all in WAC matches.
Tara Gorinsek and
Ana Paula Jimenez moved to 9-5 on the season with a win over Rachel Mellor and Annemiek Sterk on Court 1. The 6-2 win gives them a 4-1 record in WAC play, dropping only one match to Grand Canyon.
On Court 2,
Liz Chileno and
Sarina Reinertsen earned their tenth win of the season over Ya-Chi Hsu and Adithi Venkatakrishnan. The pair finished the match with a 6-3 victory, marking their fourth consecutive doubles win. They also remain undefeated in WAC doubles matches, with four wins and one unfinished match.
Bruna Casasampere and
Francisca Vergara capitalized on the Mav's success, adding another win on Court 3. They notched a 6-3 win over Alysha Damron and Jane Dorny to move to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in WAC play.
The Mavericks carried the momentum from doubles into singles action, sweeping each court without dropping a set.
Chileno earned her second conference win on Court 1 without dropping a game to Mellor. The 6-0, 6-0 win put Chileno at 9-4 on the season and 2-3 in WAC play.
Gorinsek earned another strong win over the Trailblazers over Hsu on Court 2. She allowed Hsu three games total, finishing her match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. She also moves to 9-4 on the season and holds a 4-1 record in WAC matches.
Court 3 followed in a similar manner, with Reinertsen earning her seventh consecutive win and fifth WAC win over Venkatakrishnan. The 6-1, 6-2 victory gave Reinertsen her tenth win of the season, as she remains 10-2 overall and 5-0 in WAC play.
Casasampere finished with a straight-set victory on Court 4 over Sterk, earning her third conference win of the season. The 6-2, 6-3 victory moved her to 9-5 on the season and 3-2 in WAC matches.
Jimenez's winning streak was kept alive on Court 5, as she earned her fifth consecutive win for the Mavericks over Damron. Dropping only one game, the 6-1, 6-0 victory pushed Jimenez to 11-1 on the season.
Vergara finished strong on Court 6 with a straight-set victory over Raquel Roshak. She allowed Roshak only two games, taking the 6-1, 6-1 victory to complete the sweep. Vergara maintains an 11-2 record for the season, tied with Jimenez for most wins so far.
The Mavericks look to continue their winning streak as they are set to face University of Seattle on Sunday. They are set to face the Redhawks at 1 p.m. in Seattle.
